Kids Soccer Drills: Uncover The Biggest Mistakes Coaches Make

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Kids Soccer Drills

What if I told you that coaches do make such mistakes in kids soccer drills that have the potential to destroy a team and make it a loser. And it’s absolutely right. Lot of people must be busy finding out the big reason responsible for a team’s such great downfall. Well, let it be known that there are many.

You will have to work very watchfully and advantageously in designing soccer drills for kids. You need to understand the psychology of the kids. Speak with them in a language that they can understand well. But unluckily, nearly all coaches are not experienced in this. They fail to realize that there is a distinction in coaching kids and coaching grown-up players.

So this is it; let me share some blunders that coaches make which reduce their teams to rubble.

1. Several coaches don’t take their jobs seriously. They are not punctual, fail to organize the drills, and don’t think it’s important to plan the sessions. Such behavior is bad and also has the potential to sadden the kids. Kids take soccer very seriously and so should you. Make arrangements for youth soccer drills beforehand. If you need certain equipment to carry out the drills, arrange it before hand.

Don’t be late. Make it a point to reach the field earlier than the kids. Actually, be there when the kids get there. This will also give you some time to rehearse the drills or arrange for things.

2. When coaches give instructions for kids soccer drills, they get so carried away by their emotions that they keep going on and on. Have you ever imagined how torturous that can be! You must realize that players are more interested in playing than hearing. Keep the lecture short and sweet. Use this talk to motivate the kids and increase their confidence.

It is crucial that you do not interrupt the kids when they are playing. If there is something that you need to tell the kids, wait for the session to end. Also, stay out of the field when the kids are practicing.

3. Some coaches get ruthless and unkind while dealing with the kids. In soccer drills for youth, this can prove to be catastrophic. It is never a good idea to show your emotions on the field. It is fine for the kids to make errors. Never forget that they are very young. You do not need to take this to heart and get harsh with the players.

If you do, understand that you not only make the kids lose interest in the sport but also invite disciplinary action. Soccer is a game of the intelligent. When you help the kids know the meaning of it, they will love the game.

Just don’t let these problems of kids soccer drills affect you and you are a winner. If you would like to know more about what the positive and negative traits of a coach are, join our youth soccer coaching community. This will enrich you with a lot of tips and tricks.
